The new Kia EV6 brings long-range, zero-emissions power, 800V ultra-fast charging and distinctive styling to the crossover SUV market. The EV6 is Kia's first car to be based on the company's dedicated new architecture for battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
This pioneering crossover - the first dedicated BEV launched under the new Kia design philosophy 'Opposites United' - displays a future-oriented EV design characterised by high-tech details. It is powered exclusively by electric energy, with a choice of two long-range, zero-emissions powertrains. 800V charging capability means the EV6 can go from 10-to-80 per cent battery charge in just 18 minutes.
The EV6 is the first dedicated BEV produced by Kia using the all-new Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and forms the first part of Kia's transition to the new era of electrification under its new brand slogan, 'Movement that inspires'. It also kicks off the brand's mid-to-long term strategy for BEVs, plug-in hybrids (PHEV) and hybrid electric (HEV) vehicles to make up 40 per cent of Kia's total sales by 2030, with an annual sales target of 1.6 million units for these eco-friendly models. Kia aims to grow its global BEV sales to 880,000 units in 2030 and become a top global seller. EV6 is the first of 11 new global BEV models from Kia by 2026 - seven of which will be built on E-GMP architecture, and four will be derivative EVs based on existing models.

Opposites United: a design philosophy for all future Kia vehicles
The Opposites United design philosophy makes its debut on Kia EV6 and influences the design of all future Kia models. The philosophy is based on five key design pillars: 'Bold for Nature', 'Joy for Reason', 'Power to Progress', 'Technology for Life', and 'Tension for Serenity'.
Bold for Nature is based on interaction with nature, informed by the details, shapes and proportions found both in the natural and human worlds. This design pillar creates organic, yet technical structures and finishes for vehicle interiors; exterior designs are characterised by a combination of clear and simple lines with bold, ever-changing surfaces.
Joy for Reason focuses on the feel and ambience of Kia's future vehicles. Future designs will fuse the emotional with the rational, creating vehicles that influence the mood of passengers, by relaxing and inspiring. It will also influence the adoption of new organic materials and more daring colours, expressing a sense of youth and playfulness.
Power to Progress builds on the brand's current design strengths. By drawing on and developing the skills and expertise learned throughout Kia's recent era of design-led transformation, the designs and layouts of the brand's future products will continue to evolve. Future designs will draw on experience and creativity to invent and innovate new designs.
Technology for Life embraces new technologies and innovations to foster positive interactions between humans and machines. The brand's future vehicles will adopt a next-generation in-car user experience (UX) through design, innovation, and advancements in lighting, feel and in-car connectivity - to help customers engage with their cars.
Tension for Serenity evokes the tension between opposing forces and creative contrasts and recognises the design equilibrium that comes from two opposing forces. It delivers striking design concepts that use sharp, highly technical details to create surface tension - and realise a harmonised, future-orientated design vision.

Our aim is to design the physical experience of our brand and to create original, inventive, and exciting electric vehicles. The ideas of our designers and the purpose of the brand are becoming more connected than ever, with our customers at the centre of what we do and influencing every decision that we make," added Karim Habib.
Kia's Plan S strategy puts electrification at the forefront of the company's future and sets the foundations for a full product line-up featuring 11 new battery electric vehicles by 2026. The EV6 is the first model to be launched under this new strategy and sets Kia firmly on the path to becoming a leader in the popularisation of electric vehicles.
Kia has given every consideration to ensuring that the EV6 provides more than just zero emissions mobility. With its first dedicated EV, the company has focused on measuring and reducing its carbon footprint throughout the vehicle's lifecycle, ranging from the acquisition of raw materials, procurement and transportation of parts, vehicle assembly, distribution, use and end-of-life recycling.
The EV6 is the first model to be built on Kia's all-new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and offers one of the best all-electric ranges on the market. Significant interior space and 800V ultra-fast charging add to the new model's prospects of becoming a game-changer in the EV market.
A range of eco-friendly materials have been introduced to the Kia EV6 including PET recycled plastics, floor mats and seat coverings meaning one model contains the equivalent of 107 500ml PET bottles.
The Kia EV6 has achieved product carbon footprint certification and 'Carbon Measured' label from the global climate change and sustainability consultancy of the Carbon Trust, becoming the first Korean vehicle manufacturer to achieve the certificate. The Carbon Trust is an independent, expert partner of leading organisations around the world. It advises businesses on their opportunities in a sustainable, low carbon world and measures and certifies the environmental footprint of organisations, supply chains and products.
Total greenhouse gas emissions for the EV6 were measured using the PAS2050 Standards as part of the Carbon Trust's robust product assessment. This covers emissions from the extraction of raw materials through to the end-of-life of the product and is measured in carbon dioxide equivalents (HADe). The Carbon Trust 'Carbon Measured' label validates the accuracy of these measurements and provides customers with independently reviewed information about the carbon impact of their purchase.

DESIGN AND PACKAGING
The exterior design of EV6 is a powerful representation of 'Power to Progress'. An evolution of the brand's strengths in design, EV6 is a culmination of skills and expertise collected throughout Kia's design-led transformation; investigating the future and beyond.
At the front, characteristic daytime running lights display a sleek, modern appearance. They form part of the car's 'Digital Tiger Face', a design progression evoking the spirit of Kia's 'Tiger Nose Grille' for the electrified era. The design of the lamps also includes a 'sequential' dynamic light pattern. Below this, a low air intake visually widens the front of the car, accentuating its high-tech image. Part of the optimisation of air flow from the front, the air is channelled through and under the car's flat floor for optimum aerodynamics.
The side profile displays a crossover-inspired design aesthetic, which is modern, sleek, and aerodynamic. This contrasts with sharp lines and high-tech details to create a sense of tension in the design. A swept-back windshield provides dynamism and purpose, while bold rear haunches add volume. A character line runs along the bottom of the doors curving upwards towards the rear wheel arches, visually elongating the profile of the car.
Designed in part to realise ultimate aerodynamic performance, the rear displays a sloping C-pillar with an integrated black glossy insert, which visually widens the window glass. Above this sits a prominent roof spoiler that channels air down towards a raised lower spoiler that sits atop the car's unique rear light cluster.
Kia EV6 is the result of a collaborative effort between all three studios in Kia's global design network in Namyang (Korea), Frankfurt (Germany), and Irvine (California, US).

We strongly believe EV6 is a compelling and relevant model for the new EV era. With EV6 we aimed to create a distinctive, impactful design by using a combination of sophisticated, high-tech features on pure and rich volumes while providing a dedicated EV aiming to define our future."
Class leading interior space
Based on Kia's dedicated E-GMP architecture, the EV6's cabin benefits from class-leading interior space and functionality, thanks to the flat battery under the floor, and minimal front and rear overhangs. Passengers are greeted by a lean, minimalist dashboard architecture that emphasises the cabin's remarkable sense of space. With no need to house a central transmission tunnel, the Kia EV6's flat floor provides rear seat occupants with 990mm of legroom for exceptional space and comfort. For those sat up front, there is a roomy 1,078mm of legroom on offer. Despite the EV6's relatively compact exterior dimensions - it's no longer than a compact saloon - its 2,900mm wheelbase is longer than that of the Sorento SUV, the largest car Kia sells in the UK. This results in cabin space on part with many mid-size SUVs.
Jochen Paesen, Vice President for Interior Design, commented: "People are first attracted by the exterior of cars, but they eventually fall in love with the interior - where they spend most of their time. So, designing an inspiring space for the EV6 was the most important thing for us. We believe EV6 can inspire customers by boosting their creativity."
One of the most striking elements of the new interior is a seamless high-tech curved high-definition audio visual and navigation (AVN) screen. The simple form language of the wide curved screen and the slim dashboard give the space an open feel. Extending from the steering wheel across to the centre of the car, it displays an instrument cluster in front of the driver, with infotainment and navigation above the centre console. The width of the screen creates an immersive experience for the driver, while a minimal number of physical buttons creates an uncluttered and soothing driving experience.
Below the AVN screen sits the car's new multi-mode display, something which will feature in future Kia cabin designs. This replaces physical buttons with a dedicated 'haptic' touchscreen, providing easily accessible shortcuts to control HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) and the infotainment and navigation system. Instead of delving into sub-menus, the multi-mode display allows drivers to keep more attention on the road, with quicker access to the car's most often used features, such as changing the temperature or adjusting the audio volume.
Below this panel the dashboard slopes away towards the front of the car, creating a sense of space and openness for the front-seat passengers. By incorporating an HVAC architecture that is split between the inside and outside of the cabin, the size of the interior portion of the HVAC system is reduced by 55 per cent. This layout ensures a slimmer cockpit design and more space for front seat passengers, while securing optimal cooling performance.
Premium relaxation seats, on 'GT-Line' and 'GT-Line S' models, enable the driver and front passenger to relax in supreme comfort and luxury while the EV6 is parked or charging. At the touch of a button, the seats can lift and recline, optimising posture and body pressure distribution, while allowing occupants to stretch out, read a book, or have an 18-minute cat nap while they recharge their vehicle. The seats' lightweight, slim-line design further enhances the EV6's interior space.
Premium materials are used throughout the Kia EV6's cabin for a welcoming feel, while their selection has also been chosen for utmost durability. The cabin is trimmed in a range of sustainable materials, with seats that are slim, lightweight and contemporary, and trimmed in vegan leather. Sections of the dashboard and centre console are clad in recycled plastics, equivalent to 107 plastic 500ml water bottles per car.
All of the EV6's primary controls are located within easy reach of the driver for an intuitive driving experience. The vehicle's space-saving Shift-By-Wire selector is conveniently placed alongside the EV6's starter button on the centre console, while the sleek steering wheel integrates key ADAS switches for maximum operability. Touch-type control switches for the EV6's heated steering wheel and ventilated and heated seats are also within easy reach for convenience.
Impressive storage space
The EV6's clever storage solutions cater for all needs. A sizeable centre storage tray provides a convenient space for small bags and tablets, and an integrated wireless charging pad on 'GT-Line' and 'GT-Line S' models enables users to charge their smartphones with ease. The glovebox is larger and longer than normal thanks to the split HVAC architecture, delivering 10.5 litres of space. Handy front and rear drinks holders provide added storage potential.
Generous boot space afforded by the E-GMP architecture means the EV6 is ready for the next adventure, providing up to 490 litres (VDA) of boot space with the second-row seats in place (480 litres for 'GT-Line S' models, due to the space taken up by the Meridian audio system subwoofer). With the 60:40 second-row seats folded, stowage capacity increases to approximately 1,300 litres. The Kia EV6 also features extra storage at the front - a front boot, front trunk, or 'frunk' - providing an additional 52 litres of storage space for RWD models and 20 litres for AWD models, with enough space for the vehicle's charging cable.
Underpinned by Kia's brand-new dedicated electric vehicle architecture, it is the first model constructed on new E-GMP architecture. Standing for 'Electric-Global Modular Platform', the EV6 has been designed from the outset to offer a dynamic driving experience that drivers will be able to mention in the same sentence as other well-respected high-power vehicles in the Kia line-up, including the Stinger 'GT S' and ProCeed 'GT'.
Mixing a sports crossover body with a low centre of gravity, courtesy of batteries stored beneath the floor and between the axles, the EV6 is endowed with a sportier, lower slung driving position than other taller SUVs. With no need to accommodate an engine or driveshafts, and traditional limitations imposed upon design and engineering by internal combustion engine (ICE) architecture, the wheels are pushed far into the corners of the car. With a long wheelbase of 2,900mm, the EV6 provides reassurance at speed and under cornering, with excellent stability and poise, while also providing exceptional cruising comfort compared to similar vehicles with a traditional ICE drivetrain.
The ride and handling have been honed on a variety of roads across Europe, from challenging, twisting Alpine passes, and onto fast-paced, derestricted German Autobahns, where it is exceptionally relaxing and stable to drive quickly. The EV6 is equally at home on flowing A-roads, entertaining B-roads and the hustle and bustle of a city environment, where its pure electric credentials come into its own.
The steering has been fine-tuned to deliver great precision, agility, and be highly engaging, and to surprise and delight drivers that have written off electric cars as being characterless and boring. The EV6 rewrites the traditional electric vehicle rule book and has been designed to put a smile on the face of a keen driver should the mood take them, in a similar way that the Stinger 'GT S' does. Supportive, well-bolstered seats are designed to keep drivers securely in-position, especially when making full use of the available performance.
Buyers have a choice of a RWD or AWD layout, depending on model. However, Kia's engineers have conspired to give all versions of the EV6 the feel and engagement of a thoroughbred rear-wheel-drive vehicle. On AWD models, with the larger 165kW electric motor in the back, and a smaller 74kW motor up front, the steering remains relatively uncorrupted, even under extreme acceleration. And thanks to its near-silent powertrain, the Kia EV6 is an easy car in which to make rapid, unruffled progress. The cornering experience isn't dissimilar to that of the Stinger, with the powerful rear motor pushing the car effectively out of corners under acceleration; AWD cars are designed to offer a little extra 'bite' at the front when tackling bends and accelerating back up to speed.
The suspension has been engineered to deliver a promise of a sportier and more dynamic driving experience compared to its nearest rivals, and one which matches the EV6's dramatic styling. Marginally stiffer front and rear spring rates compared to other vehicles based on this E-GMP architecture result in slightly better controlled body roll when cornering and over undulating roads. The front and rear anti-roll bars are also 1mm thicker than the nearest equivalent model also resulting in a flatter, more controlled ride from behind the wheel, and slightly more linear steering. Increased damper force has also resulted in useful enhancements to body control and steering response.
Though the dampers on 'Air', 'GT-Line' and 'GT-Line S' models aren't adaptive, such as those on the upcoming 'GT' flagship, all models available from launch feature passive 'frequency selective dampers' on all four corners. These are purely mechanical, passive dampers which add an additional piston to adjust the amount of pressure on the rebound disc stack. The result is dampers which allow the rebound damping force to adapt dynamically to different input frequencies from changing road surfaces. This innovation enables the EV6 to offer a slightly firmer, more planted ride when faced with lower frequency inputs (such as on a fast, snaking road), and a smoother, more comfortable ride at motorway speeds or over poor surfaces.
Considerable lessons have been learnt throughout the development of the e-Niro and two-generations of the Soul EV, particularly in the area of regenerative braking. As a result of this experience, the brake pedal in the EV6 has been engineered to be incredibly linear and predictable, integrating seamlessly with the regenerative brake system. As a result, this easy-to-modulate pedal enables drivers to bring the EV6 to a stop smoothly.
The EV6 therefore also boasts a new 'i-PEDAL' mode, enabling easy one-pedal driving in the majority of driving conditions to maximise efficiency and driving range.
Kia's E-GMP architecture is designed exclusively for its electric vehicles, and makes its debut in the Kia EV6. This provides immediate advantages over adapting existing platforms designed to accommodate a combustion engine. The E-GMP architecture ensures that EV6 provides a new electrification experience with powerful driving performance, ultra-fast charging, increased range, and enhanced safety.
From launch, Kia EV6 buyers have a choice of two fully electric, zero-emission powertrains - RWD and AWD - based on long-range (77.4kWh) high-voltage lithium-ion polymer battery packs as standard.
EV6 'GT-Line' and 'GT-Line S' models are available with both rear- and all-wheel-drive. The well-equipped 'Air' is the entry point into the EV6 line-up and is sold exclusively with rear-wheel drive. This is Kia's first electric vehicle to be available with a choice of RWD or AWD options - the latter offering enhanced dynamic capability in all on-road driving conditions.
The RWD EV6 can travel up to 328 miles on a single charge (WLTP combined cycle). With a power output of 226bhp and maximum torque of 350Nm, it can sprint to 62mph in 7.3 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 114mph. The AWD EV6 with dual motor has a more muscular 321bhp on tap, and 605Nm of torque. It accelerates to 62mph in just 5.2 seconds, with a top speed of 114mph.
The flagship of the EV6 line-up, the 'GT', is due on-sale in the UK in the final quarter of 2022, and will possess 577bhp and a mighty 740Nm of torque. Final performance figures are yet to be ratified, however Kia powertrain engineers are targeting a top speed of 162mph and a 0-62mph acceleration figure in an eye-watering 3.5 seconds. The final figures will be announced in advance of the car's 2022 arrival. With the addition of electronic-Limited Slip Differential software to the EV6 GT version only, drivers will enjoy confident control and dynamic ride and handling in all conditions.

A viable day-to-day EV
More than almost any other EV currently on sale today, the Kia EV6 is a viable option for day-to-day mobility, removing the perceived barriers that prevent many from making the switch to electric. As Kia's first dedicated EV, it provides rapid charging times, access to an extensive charging network, impressive long range, segment-leading interior space and can even act as a portable battery pack to charge electrical appliances or other electric vehicles. The EV6 is designed inside and out to deliver the very best experience an EV can offer, making ownership as convenient and accessible as running an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle, and with reduced environmental impact.
800V Ultra-Fast Charging
EV6 introduces an innovative multi high-speed charging system which provides EV6 drivers with access to a broader charging infrastructure. Multi high-speed charging means that the system is compatible with both 800V ultra-fast charging and more mainstream 400V fast charging without the need for a special adapter or additional on-board charger.
Stopping at an 800V charger feeds the current directly to the battery at ultra-fast speeds, charging the EV6 battery from 10-to-80 per cent in just 18 minutes on all variants. A top-up charge of 62 miles of driving range takes just four and a half minutes. When the car stops at a more mainstream 400V charger, the vehicle's motor and inverter convert the 400V current from the charging station into 800V, charging the battery at the maximum power provided by it.
The car's charging system is more flexible than previous generation BEVs thanks to an Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). The ICCU enables a new vehicle-to-load (V2L) function, which is capable of discharging energy from the vehicle battery. The V2L function is available on 'GT-Line' and 'GT-Line S' models, and can supply up to 3.6kW of power. This is capable of operating a 55-inch television and air conditioner simultaneously for more than 24 hours, or providing owners with a mobile power source. For instance, V2L can run appliances on a camping trip, such as an electric grill, heater or fan, or provide power to a fridge or freezer during a power cut. The system is also able to charge another EV or PHEV if needed.
Charging to suit all circumstances
Every EV6 comes equipped with a Type 2-to-Type 2 charger with a five metre cable, as well as a Type 2-to-Domestic three-pin plug charger, to cater for every eventuality. For home use, a 7kW home charging station will recharge the EV6 from 10-to-100 per cent in seven hours 20 minutes; a regular domestic three-pin plug will take 32 hours and 45 minutes to reach full from 10 per cent. Out on the road, a 50kW rapid charger will charge the car from 10-to-80 per cent in 1 hour and 13 minutes; 350kW ultra-fast chargers take just 18 minutes to recharge from 10-to-80 per cent.
Kia has raised the standards of range performance with the combination of E-GMP architecture, power electrics, and design, giving the EV6 one of the best all-electric ranges on the market. In the UK, every model available from launch is capable at least 300 miles on a single charge on the WLTP combined cycle.
All UK models are feature a long-range (77.4kWh) high voltage battery pack as standard, reducing range anxiety for owners. Homologated WLTP values confirm that the rear wheel drive 77.4kWh Kia EV6 can travel up to 328 miles on the combined cycle. That's similar to the distance from London to Edinburgh on a single charge. Less frequent charging removes one of the most significant barriers to EV ownership.
The all-wheel drive EV6 can also deliver a strong range performance; up to 314 miles on the combined WLTP cycle for 'GT-Line' models (with 19-inch wheels), and up to 300 miles for 'GT-Line S' models (with larger 20-inch wheels).
Maximising driving range and efficiency
The EV6 is fitted with energy-recuperation technologies to maximise driving range. This includes Kia's latest-generation energy-efficient heat pump (optional on 'GT-Line' and 'GT-Line S'), which scavenges waste heat from the car's coolant system. This ensures that, at -7°C, the car can achieve 80 per cent of the range that would be possible at 25°C.
Also featured is the latest generation of Kia's smart regenerative braking system. Operated by paddle shifters behind the steering wheel, drivers can use the technology to quickly and easily slow the car, recuperating kinetic energy to maximise driving range and efficiency. Drivers can choose from six regenerative braking levels (none, 1 to 3, 'i-PEDAL', or auto mode), depending on the desired level of energy recuperation. The 'i-PEDAL' driving mode allows the car to harvest the maximum amount of energy from its brakes, enabling the driver to bring the car to a gentle halt without needing to push the brake pedal. At any time, and in any mode, the driver can also hold the left paddle to initiate the maximum level of brake energy regeneration, slowing the car or bringing it smoothly to a stop.
The EV6 will indicate when its charge is low and, using dynamic POIs and real-time charger availability status, can guide drivers to the nearest charging station using the on-board navigation system. Kia's partnership with the IONITY charging network offers EV6 customers access to reduced per-kWh prices at over 400 high power charging stations across 24 European countries via the Kia Charge app. The IONITY network uses the leading European charging standard CCS (Combined Charging System) and is sourced by 100 per cent renewable energy meaning EV6 drivers can travel emissions-free and carbon neutral.
Kia Charge provides access to more than 17,000 charging connectors in the UK, with additional bolt-on tariffs available for the IONITY and bp pulse charging networks. In addition, it gives EV6 owners additional access to around 205,000 charge points across Europe, including AC and DC connectors. Kia Charge provides a choice of subscriptions and payments depending on drivers' usage levels.
Further enhancing outdoor adventure opportunities is the Kia EV6's vehicle-to-load (V2L) function that drastically improves charging flexibility (available on 'GT-Line' and 'GT-Line S' models). An Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) enables up to 3.6kW of power to be discharged from the vehicle's battery via a simple adapter that turns the exterior charging plug into a power socket. The adapter plug will be market specific, featuring a three-pin plug for UK buyers, enabling the EV6 to charge anything from external domestic appliances to other EVs. Inside the cabin, a handy charging port located under the rear seats allows passengers to charge devices from the vehicle's battery without the need for additional adapters. The EV6's own battery is preserved by ensuring state of charge does not fall below 20 per cent, at which point V2L is disabled.
Impressive towing capability
The EV6 is designed to tow up to 1,600kg with the 77.4kWh battery pack, both in RWD and AWD configurations, with functionality dependent on the battery pack's state of charge. Towing capability provides strong electric vehicle performance for perfect trips away with the family.
The Kia EV6 introduces a suite of advanced technologies designed to inspire the driver in its cabin and provide a holistic on-board user experience. Intuitive and easily accessible connectivity, information and augmented reality systems complement the driving experience by minimising distractions and appealing to the senses.
Two curved 12.3-inch high-definition widescreens wrap around the driver providing easy access to key vehicle information at a glance. Directly in front of the driver is a customisable 'cluster screen' which displays information such as speed, remaining all-electric range and state of charge. Adjacent is a central display screen combining the navigation, infotainment, and menu systems. These screens are paired together in a seamless curve, creating a panoramic feeling that is immersive and unobstructed under all driving conditions. The chemically strengthened glass ensures high visibility and robustness, with thin film panels that reduce the impact of light.
The EV6 also features an augmented reality (AR) head-up display system on 'GT-Line S' models, which projects driving information onto the base of the windscreen in the driver's line of sight. Seamless communication between the navigation system, on-board camera, and Head-Up Display (HUD) projects turn-by-turn directions on the road ahead to keep the driver looking forward at all times. The augmented reality display and the two screens provide all the information the driver needs without having to look elsewhere. The system also displays alerts from the car's Advanced Driver Assistance System, as well as details on speed limits and current vehicle speeds.
Convenience features such as keyless entry with touch-sensitive entry buttons, programmable driver profiles, relaxation seats, and ergonomic design create an experience that puts the driver first. From the automatic flush-fitting handles that emerge from the car body, through to the intuitive touch-sensitive interfaces and the Augmented Reality HUD, every journey in the EV6 is designed to improve human-machine interaction and promote a sense of well-being.
A powerful 14-speaker Meridian surround audio system is also available on 'GT-Line S' versions, a first for Kia, delivering a truly immersive sound experience. The 14-speaker audio system has been engineered by the experts at Meridian and features several of the British audio pioneer's proprietary digital signal processing (DSP) technologies. Meridian's core sound philosophy has been integrated into the EV6 allowing customers to enjoy natural, lifelike, and authentic audio on the move.
The speaker system also offers Active Sound Design (ASD), a newly developed feature by Kia which provides drivers with audible feedback to the speed that the car is travelling and controlled via a user interface. Drivers have a choice of three different soundscapes, and can adjust their volume - or turn off the ASD system altogether.
Sound absorbent materials in the floor, wheel arches, doors, boot lid and tyres reduce road and wind noise, creating a quiet and serene space for all occupants. Acoustic windshield and door glass further improve the on-board experience giving the Kia EV6 a sound rating equal to higher-class premium models.
The EV6 offers class-leading levels of safety and convenience thanks to its enhanced suite of driver assistance systems (ADAS). These help to reduce many of the inherent hazards and stresses of driving, protecting occupants and other road users on every journey.
Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2) utilises radars around the car to help maintain a set distance and speed from the vehicle ahead when driving on a motorway or dual carriageway. It also helps centre the vehicle in the lane, even through a curve. In case of an adjacent vehicle driving in close proximity, HDA 2 assists to adjust the EV6's path, further reducing the risk of collision. Also, with the driver's hands on the steering wheel and above a certain speed, a click of the indicator stalk is all that's required to move the car into the corresponding lane. HDA 2 is fitted to 'GT-Line S' editions as standard.
Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA) on 'GT-Line' and 'GT-Line S' models helps drivers complete lane changes safely. It uses radar sensors to warn the driver of approaching vehicles, with the system activating the brakes if it detects a risk of a collision during lane change manoeuvres.
Lane Following Assist (LFA) features on all versions of the EV6 and helps centre the vehicle in the lane. When driving, LFA can be switched on and off with the push of a button.
Safely navigating junctions, particularly those with multiple lanes, can often be a stressful experience for many drivers. Kia's Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) system now includes Junction Crossing functionality on 'GT-Line S' models, providing greater preventative safety when navigating junctions. If the EV6's turn signal is activated, the system warns the driver if there is a collision risk with an oncoming vehicle. Similarly, a warning is provided if there is a risk from vehicles approaching from the left or right when the driver is travelling straight across a junction. If either risk increases, the system warns the driver and can automatically apply the brakes to help avoid a collision.
Key to a vehicle's safety is the ability to see and be seen. To provide the very best levels of illumination, the Kia EV6 features the new Intelligent Front Lighting System (IFLS) on 'GT-Line' and 'GT-Line S' models. The technology enables each LED to light up or power down independently to deliver a precise, dynamic lighting experience. IFLS allows the driver to travel with a permanent high beam without any risk of dazzling oncoming traffic. A front-view camera featuring vehicle recognition technology automatically dims or brightens each individual LED, enhancing the driver's forward vision while protecting oncoming traffic and other road users from glare in real time.
Safe Exit Assist (SEA) helps occupants avoid collisions with a rear side vehicle when exiting EV6. When the occupant opens the door to exit the vehicle after a stop, the system provides a warning if an approaching vehicle from the rear side is detected. SEA also helps keep the rear door closed with an electronic child lock. It is included as standard on 'GT-Line' and 'GT-Line S' grades.
Parking and other low speed manoeuvres are made easier with a Surround View Monitor (SVM). Cameras display a 360-degree view around the car, with the display conveniently shown on the EV6's infotainment screen. The feature is standard on 'GT-Line S' versions.
Reversing out of a tight space is also made safer thanks to Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA) and featuring on 'GT-Line' models and above. This high-tech system detects oncoming vehicles approaching from either side when reversing. Should a potential collision be detected, the system will automatically brake the vehicle.
For those really tight parking spaces, drivers can call upon the Kia EV6's Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) system to take the hassle out of parking entirely. Available on 'GT-Line S' models, RSPA is a feature that enables the vehicle to park itself autonomously, whether or not the driver is in the vehicle. Using surround view cameras and ultrasonic sensors, the EV6 can highlight a parking space of a suitable size and automatically steer itself into the space, with automatic control of accelerator, brakes and gearshift. What's more, RSPA can park the vehicle in both perpendicular and parallel parking bays. Drivers returning to their car to find that another vehicle has parked too close for them to get into their car can also use RSPA to 'summon' the EV6 out of the space autonomously to create space to open the doors.
For added convenience, the EV6 also features Kia's Smart Power Tailgate on 'GT-Line S'. With the EV6's Smart Key in the driver's pocket, the system recognises the key as the driver approaches the rear of the vehicle. It opens the tailgate automatically, allowing easy and convenient access to the boot - a boon for those whose hands are full.
No matter which EV6 model a buyer chooses, they are promised a comprehensive specification, with a long list of standard equipment, generous interior space, and premium levels of refinement. The line-up starts with EV6 'Air', before moving up to 'GT-Line' and 'GT-Line S'. The flagship 'GT' model is set to join the range in the final quarter of 2022.
The EV6 'Air' features grey 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with daytime running lights, electrically folding, adjustable and heated door mirrors with integrated LED indicator lights, automatic headlight control, LED rear combination lights with rear fog lights, rain sensing front wipers and a rear spoiler. Body coloured exterior flush door handles feature alongside a high gloss black door garnish and beltline and black side sill mouldings.
Premium relaxation seats on 'Air' models are trimmed in black vegan leather upholstery, with power adjustment for the driver's lumbar support. There's an engine start/stop button with smart entry, heated front seats and steering wheel, all-round electric windows with auto up and down functionality and an automatic defog system. To get that perfect driving position, a tilt and telescopic steering wheel is provided, along with other comfort-oriented equipment, such as an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, dual automatic air conditioning, electronic park brake (EPB) with auto hold function, navigation-based smart cruise control with stop and go functionality, paddle shifters for the drive mode select, and steering wheel mounted controls. The sunvisors feature LED illumination for the vanity mirrors, there's a centre console with open storage compartment and armrest, cloth headlining, and metal painted interior door handles.
All EV6 models come with five seats, feature remote-folding 60:40 split rear seats, and include a luggage area load cover, luggage board, boot net hooks, and a ski-hatch and cupholder integrated into the rear centre armrest. Four USB charge ports are provided up front, along with a trio of 12-volt sockets. An additional 12-volt socket is integrated into the boot, along with LED lights for the front and rear luggage areas. Ambient lighting is standard, along with LED lighting for both the front and rear cabins. Storage features include front seatback pockets, front and rear door storage, and a glovebox with illumination.
A suite of safety devices feature on the Kia EV6, including Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA) for city, pedestrian, cyclist and junction turning, a drive mode select system, e-Call system, Hill-start assist control (HAC), Highway Driving Assist (HDA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), Lane Follow Assist (LFA), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Multi-Collision Brake Assist (MCBA), Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and a tyre mobility kit (TMK).
A comprehensive infotainment system consists of a dual 12.3-inch driver display and touchscreen navigation system, together with Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® - both with voice control - and Bluetooth with voice recognition and Kia Connect. EV6 'Air' models feature six speakers and feature a USB port for a media connection. To aid manoeuvrability, rear parking sensors are provided, along with a reversing camera system with dynamic guidelines.
All models include front centre, twin front, twin curtain and centre side airbags, with front passenger airbag cut-off switch. There are also ISOFIX child seat top tethers and anchor fixings for the outer rear seats. Headrests are all individually adjustable. Security is well provided for thanks to an anti-theft alarm and immobiliser, locking wheel nuts, and a visible vehicle identification number.
All EV6 models come with a Type 2-to-Type 2 charger with a five-metre cable, as well as a Type 2-to-domestic three-pin plug charger.
Move up to 'GT-Line' specification and models feature black 19-inch alloy wheels, more muscular 'GT-Line' exterior styling, rear privacy glass, a UV windscreen, and dual LED headlights with adaptive driving beam. Inside are premium relaxation seats for both front occupants, power adjusted driver and front passenger seats with memory functionality on the driver's side and two-way electric lumbar adjustment. All seats are trimmed in two-tone black and white vegan leather and suede, while the cabin is finished with sporty alloy pedals and deluxe door scuff plates. Alongside the six-speaker audio system, a wireless mobile phone charger is provided on the centre console and front parking sensors are also added. The Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) system is another addition to 'GT-Line' models, as well as Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA) with Rear-Cross Traffic Assist (RCTA) and Safe Exit Assist (SEA). A heat pump is available as an optional extra.
Above 'GT-Line' models, 'GT-Line S' variants feature larger 20-inch alloy wheels, automatic door handles, a sunroof with tilting and sliding functionality, heated rear outer seats, ventilated front seats and a smart power tailgate. A Meridian premium sound system with 14 speakers and active sound design (ASD) is also standard, alongside an augmented reality HUD, Remote Smart Park Assist (RSPA), a 360-degree around view camera system, and Blind-Spot View Monitor. The Forward Collision Avoidance (FCA) system includes Junction Crossing functionality, and 'GT-Line S' versions also offer Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA) and Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA2).
'GT-Line' and 'GT-Line S' models are available with rear-wheel drive as standard, with an optional all-wheel drive system for drivers looking for greater performance and on-road stability.
WARRANTY AND AFTERCARE
Kia set a new benchmark in 2007 when it launched the first-generation cee'd in the UK with an industry-best seven-year/100,000-mile warranty. This demonstration of faith in the quality and reliability of Kia products was subsequently extended to every model from 2010. A major benefit is that it is transferable to subsequent owners at no charge, as long as the seven-year time limit has not been reached and the mileage is below 100,000. The EV6 benefits from the same warranty, which extends to cover the battery pack and motor(s).
The mechanical warranty is supported by a 12-year anti-perforation warranty and a five-year paint warranty.
Servicing is required every 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes soonest. The EV6 is available with a range of 'Kia Care' service plans, developed to provide customers with a wide choice of service plan options within the first seven years of the vehicle's life - matching its industry-leading seven-year warranty.
The service plans include a comprehensive range of options including the original, traditional, first, third and fifth services and those in between. In addition, a customer can purchase services up to and including the seventh service to match the full length of the warranty. Plans are available for all Kia owners and can be purchased at any point of ownership for cars up to five years old.
The Kia Promise was introduced to give customers the best ownership experience by giving them access to seven key benefits.
