A Proper Send-Off for the FL5
Honda’s putting a full stop on the FL5 Civic Type R in Europe with this: the 2025 Civic Type R Ultimate Edition. And while it’s not some wild rework under the skin, the changes are thoughtful — almost reverent. It’s a nod to the fanbase more than a play for headlines.
Limited to just 40 units across Europe, this final send-off is all about celebrating the essence of Type R. And that celebration is dressed in a familiar shade — Championship White. Honda’s calling it “a tribute to Honda’s winning motorsport legacy.” Fair. It works.
Design Cues with Intent
There’s nothing flashy here. But look closer, and the details start to speak. A bright red pinstripe slices across the bonnet, subtle but sharp. A matching motif dances along the doors, more visual motion for a car that already looks like it’s moving at a standstill.
Matte black 19-inch alloys sit wide, filled out by fat Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The stance is low, sure-footed — same as it ever was. And yes, the big wing’s still bolted on the back. Some things don’t need to change.
Step inside and it’s classic Type R. Deep red seats, metal gear knob, and that serious driving position. There’s a plaque on the dash too, individually numbered. You won’t forget which one you bought — if you’re lucky enough to find one.
Familiar Power, Still Potent
Nothing’s changed under the hood, and that’s just fine. The 2.0-liter turbo VTEC engine still cranks out 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Power goes to the front wheels through a 6-speed manual — the only way a Type R should be.
It’s not about the numbers here. It’s about how it delivers. Sharp turn-in, linear power, proper feedback through the wheel and chassis. You drive this car — it doesn’t drive you.
Where It Stands
With only 40 units allocated for Europe, the 2025 Civic Type R Ultimate Edition isn’t trying to outdo its competitors. It’s a farewell. A thank-you card with a red envelope.
No hybrid bits. No AWD. No over-designed interior screens. Just a well-honed hot hatch bowing out on its own terms. In a world where the Golf R and GR Corolla are chasing tech and complexity, the Type R remains stubbornly analog. We’ll miss that.
