The first BMW Z3 roadsters were delivered to their proud owners in May 1996. With almost 170,000 sold, the Z3 roadsters have quickly become the market leader in its segment and are admired on roads the world over. Starting in April 1999, all models (with the exception of the M roadster) are receiving discreet but striking refinement: most notably of which are the rear wheel arches, now designed with more distinctive contours that accentuate the sporting character of the car.

The Z3 naturally retains its typical roadster styling - the low waistline, long and sleek hood, and short, squat rear end. Now however, the waistline - which reaches its lowest point next to the seats - rises up clearly towards the rear end of the car. The re-styled trunk, L-shaped rear light clusters and the re-designed rear bumpers, round off the roadster's look from the rear.

The front end of the BMW Z3 has also been discreetly re-designed, offering fully enclosed headlights, a BMW kidney grille (which always differs in styling slightly from one model to another), and new wheels which all add to the new, fresh look of BMW's successful model from Spartanburg.

The interior of the BMW Z3 has also been upgraded in a number of significant ways. The Z3 now comes with a new, smaller sports steering wheel that has an airbag that ignites in two stages, roof lining with insulation protection, attractive and pleasant-feeling plastic surfaces and a completely re-designed centre console.
